Our Role

bioKneX’s purpose is to promote the region’s excellent innovation, research and commercial assets on a regional, national and international basis.
To achieve this bioKneX has 4 primary focus areas:

• East Midlands Bioscience Knowledge Base
  bioKneX draws together information from the region’s 7 universities and industry base. The Knowledge Base contains a wealth of information on research and expertise, as well as intellectual property, commercial opportunities and publications to provide a comprehensive and detailed resource.
  
   
• HEI-Industry Brokerage
  The East Midlands boasts internationally acknowledged research institutions in the biosciences sector. As well as providing a showcase for this research through the Knowledge Base, bioKneX is focused on identifying commercial opportunities and partners for its partner HEIs. Through the expanding bioKneX on-line network , our sector contacts and attendance at chosen conferences and exhibitions, bioKneX identifies organisations who have an interest in linking with East Midlands Institutions and acts to stimulate collaboration and commercial interaction.
  
   
• Skills
  bioKneX works in a number of ways to address the skills needs of region:
  (a) Through the bioKneX Education Laboratory students have an exciting opportunity to experience practical bioScience related to today’s cutting edge bioscience industry.
  (b) bioKneX works to identify and promote the development of employer needs driven courses and programmes to support the growing bioscience cluster of the East Midlands.
  
   
• Facilitation of disruptive technologies
  A key area for new growth is through non-traditional relationships. BioKneX is seeking to develop these interdisciplinary relationships within HEIs and between regional partner HEIs and encourage exploitation of those results.
